Atlantis Mission Prolonged

:: 12.07.2011

The last mission of the Atlantis shuttle will be prolonged for one day. The spacecraft will land in Florida on July 21.

The decision was made by Mission Management in order to provide the crew with more time for cargo logistics. Atlantis is currently docked to the ISS having brought 5 tons of food, clothes and equipment to the space outpost. It will bring the broken cooling system pump back to Earth.

ISS crew members Ron Garan and Michael Fossum will perform the only STS-135’s space walk today. The EVA is planned to begin at 4.44 p.m. MSK and last about 6.5 hours. US astronauts will carry out maintenance operations outside the station.
